While January tends to be one of the quietest months in Truro, for Town Staff, the Board of Selectmen, and the Finance Committee, it is a very busy month as we work on the FY 2016 Town Budget to be presented at the April 28th Annual Town Meeting.

Most Monday mornings in January, members of the Board of Selectmen and Finance Committee meet with the Town Administrator and Department Heads to conduct a detailed review of their initial FY16 proposed budgets. These Budget Task Force Meetings provide a great opportunity for us to develop a deep understanding of the budget and to ensure that we propose a budget that uses resources wisely and reflects our priorities for Town Government. As our new Town Administrator Rae Ann Palmer reminds us, the Annual Budget is our most important policy document.

The Budget Taskforce Meetings are open to the public and are posted on the Town’s website. Also, each spring the Finance Committee holds a public hearing on the proposed budget to provide an opportunity for residents to ask questions and to review more fully the budget prior to Town Meeting.

It is my hope that citizens who are concerned about municipal spending will take advantage of this public process and share with members of the Board of Selectmen their concerns and suggestions.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year,

Jay Coburn
