I am pleased to share with you that on September 17th, the Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to hire Rae Anne Palmer of Wethersfield, Connecticut as Truro's new Town Administrator. For over 30 years, Ms. Palmer has worked in local government in the City of Hartford and the Town of Wethersfield. Her experience includes managing special projects, serving as a senior analyst in the City of Hartford’s Budget Office, and senior positions in Hartford’s Police Department. For the past four years she served as Assistant Town Manager in Wethersfield.
Thanks to the tremendous efforts of our Search Committee, we were presented with a pool of three exceptional women from which to choose. On September 16th, we had an intense but productive full day of meetings with the candidates individually and in groups along with a formal interview. With such strong and talented candidates, our challenge was not to select the best candidate, but to figure out which candidate was the best for our community at this time.
I am particularly grateful to the other candidates who are outstanding professionals, serving the Towns of Brewster and Provincetown. We are fortunate to count them as colleagues in our neighboring towns and partners in facing regional challenges.
We expect to complete contract negotiations by October 1st, and Ms. Palmer is expected to join us on November 1st.
On behalf of the Board of Selectmen, I want to thank Charleen Greenhalgh and Bob Lawton for their leadership over the past several months. Along with the entire team at Town Hall, their hard work and dedication to the Town, particularly during the past six months, has been exemplary. The entire team has pitched in and risen to the challenges, and I thank them for their professionalism and commitment to this special community.
