Commission on Disabilities

The Truro Commission on Disabilities has had a busy and productive year. We have worked with the Truro Beach Commission to develop a plan to improve the accessibility of our town beaches. Through the town's capital budget, Mobi mats will be purchased for Head of the Meadow Beach which will provide an accessible path next to the rope fence created this year by the Truro Department of Public Works. Also, the town will be purchasing two new beach wheelchairs, one for Head of the Meadow Beach and the other for Corn Hill Beach. 

We have been in negotiations with the United States Postal Service to improve the accessibility of the North Truro Post Office. Although the design meets "the letter of the law," it doesn't make common sense. The postal service agrees with us, but as yet has not identified the funds to make the necessary changes. We hope to work with the newly appointed North Truro Postmaster in the coming year on this very important issue.
