Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill is honoring environmental activist and author, Bill McKibben. Mr. McKibben is giving a lecture at the Wellfleet Congregational Church, Sunday, August 11th, 7:30 p.m. He is the Woody English Distinguished Artists and Writers Chair, and he will speak about "a report from the front lines--the desperate but beautiful fight against climate change."

Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Joyce Johnson! The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod honored the Founder of Castle Hill Joyce Johnson. Last Monday, Ms. Johnson drew a standing ovation from the audience as she approached the podium to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Jim Quigley, aide to U.S. Rep. William R. Keating, presented the award after reading a long testimonial, which described her influence on a budding artist in the 1980s and of her teaching a boy undergoing cancer treatment. Ms. Johnson is an accomplished sculptor, who has worked in wood, clay, direct plaster, and other materials to be reproduced in bronze. She studied art with a Spanish sculptor, she graduated with honors in 1962 from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and she completed a graduate teaching fellowship there. Ms. Johnson founded the Center in 1971 and is still teaching sculpture at the Center.
Castle Hill Catalogs: So if you didn't come by to pick up a catalog from the office, you should be getting one in your mailbox any day!! This year, as you may have heard, we have expanded our offerings to a record 145 workshops. We have a new Culinary and Garden Arts section, and we have one-day offerings for kids and their parents. We have some of the best teachers and artists from around the world, including Wally Asslebergh from Belgium, Judy Pfaff from New York, Julie Snyder from California, Richard Blanco from Maine, and Stuart Shils from Philadelphia. And there are many more classes from which to choose!
