April showers bring May flowers ... they say. But the lack of any substantial rain in April left us with very dry and firm ground conditions most of the month.
Thankfully we received over an inch of rain a few days ago, and that helped a great deal. The turf is in great shape and really is starting to show strong
growth. It is also that time of year again when poa annua begins to pop and when those white seed heads slow the green speed down a bit. A poa annua
retardant is put down to inhibit its growth, and they soon should speed up again. It has a challenging affect on chipping and putting, but what is golf
without changes & challenges?
I would like to take this opportunity to ask all who can to support the Town Pro Shop and Snack Bar. There's a lot of great new merchandise in the
Shop, and a nice cold beverage and sandwich is always nice before and after a round at the Links. So, help us out in making the Links more than a
round of golf. Take some time after the round to buy a drink and sit out on the deck or look at our large variety of spring and summer merchandise.
Please check out trurolinks.com to check out the 2012 Tournament Schedule for your guests who might be coming this spring and summer. It's always disappointing to have guests only to find out the course is closed. Remember Summer Rates go into effect Tuesday, May 1st. Check the web page for those rate changes.
As we move closer to the peak golf season, it is time for you to practice your short game and to get ready to lower those spring scores and, also, to reduce your handicap. I do hope you take enough interest in your game to establish a GHIN USGA Handicap. It is a great way to keep a record of how you are doing, and it will allow you to play in any tournament event ANYWHERE in the world. Get a USGA Handicap. You can sign up in the Pro Shop for a seasonal fee of $25. You can post nine- and eighteen-hole scores on site in the Massachusetts Golf Association computer.
In May, play will increase as usual; and it is really important to call the shop for a tee time – ESPECIALLY on the weekends. You can call seven days in advance. Don't get left out and miss a beautiful playing day! It is most important in July & August.
Clubs cleaned, body in shape, swing in tune ... now get out there and play golf.
Watch the short video on the Links website, and you'll be inspired for the new season!
