Beach Program

New Beach Supervisor Steven St. Clair is doing an excellent job getting the staff in place and the office up and running for the season.  He will be assisted this summer by Hannah Gonsalves, a veteran of the program, whom many of you may already know.  Important dates to keep in mind:

June 9th – Beach Office opens, and stickers go on sale
June 16th – Stickers will be checked at the beach parking lots

As of June 16th, the Beach Office will be open seven days a week, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for regular business.  Fire permits will be issued between 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. only.

Lifeguards will be involved in two days of training on June 16th and 17th.  Therefore, the first day that beaches will be guarded is June 18th.

Finally, please keep in mind that all animals are prohibited on the beach from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm from June 16th through Labor Day.

Old North Cemetery Improvements

A generous bequest from the estate of Charles Harrer, in honor of his wife Ellen Mary Harrer, is being used to make the improvements mentioned last month at the Old North Cemetery.  Fifty cherry trees have been planted, and work on the granite post and rod fence and cobblestone driveways will be completed in early June.

Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting

I was invited to the Chamber of Commerce annual meeting and dinner on May 16th, held at VR's in Wellfleet (VR's is a member of the Truro Chamber.)  After dinner, I gave a short talk outlining my first 240 days in office and also ways the Town can cooperate with and promote local businesses.  I highlighted the Economic Development Committee, Open Cape and the Ag Commission.  I also offered to post a listing on the Town website of business hours during the shoulder-season and the off-season.  The Chamber information booth will open June 9th for the 2012 season.  Most frequently asked question, “How much further to Provincetown?”

More Programming for Channel 18

Our IT Director Harry Terkanian and I met with Beth O'Rourke, the head of Provincetown TV, to discuss sharing some of our programming from our respective government channels.  In addition to Selectmen's and regulatory boards' meetings, we hope to run programs involving the schools and organizations like the Outer Cape Chorale, also.  We think there is interest on both sides of the border about what is going on in the neighboring town.  We also hope to reach out to local non-profits to make them aware of the Bulletin Board on Channel 18 and to invite them to post notices and information.

We hope you also know that we stream video of meetings on our website for the Selectmen, Conservation Commission, the Board of Health, and the Zoning Board of Appeals.  Click on the “Boards & Committees” button on the Homepage and select one of those committees; and you will see “Video” listed next to meeting dates, minutes and agendas.  Click on “Video,” and you can stream the meeting.

Welcome back to all our summer residents.  We look forward to a busy summer season.  Please stop by the Town Hall and say “Hello.”

Sincerely,

Rex Peterson
