Greetings from the Chief of Police
Summer has arrived, and the Police Department continues to be busy with its normal work load and special programs. This month I will speak with you about summer safety, a school zone reminder, the Department’s new officers, our recent Sergeant’s promotion, the speed trailer, and our ride-along program.
Summer Safety
With Memorial Day behind us, the traditional summer season for the Cape is here. Many of us will entertain family and friends, and some may have renters use your homes during the summer months. Please take a moment to think about the safety aspects of all your activities. This can be as simple as hats and sunscreen to driving carefully on the busy roads. Leave extra time with all the crowds. With the great weather, people venture out; and we all need to use the proper safety gear associated with whatever activity we are doing. Some examples are bicycle helmets and bright reflective clothing when riding, life vests for boating / canoeing or kayaking, bug spray for us and tick repellant for your pets. Keep emergency numbers plugged into your cell and house phones:
School Zone Reminder
Just as a helpful reminder during the last few weeks of school year, the School Zone on RTE 6 in front of the Truro Central School is activated from 7:45 am until 8:45 am and from 2:45 pm until 3:30 pm. Please remember that the speed is reduced to 20 MPH during the crossing times; and you must stay at 20 MPH until you are past the “School Zone Ends” signs, which are opposite the yellow flashing light poles. We changed the color of the signs to make it easier to see where the school zone ends. You have to stay at 20 MPH until you pass the ending signs.
New Officers
Both of our newly-hired Police Officers, Steven Raneo and Gregg Hobbs, have completed successfully all the pre-screening processes for attending the Police Academy. Their start date is July 16th, and both are very eager to get started.
Promotions

Recently the Truro Police Department completed its first comprehensive promotional process for the position of Sergeant. Four of our officers competed for the position; and the evaluators were extremely impressed with the professionalism, training, and experience of the candidates. On Monday, May 21st, 2012, Sergeant Carrie DeAngelo was sworn in as the new Sergeant.
Sergeant DeAngelo brings 12 years of police experience, energy, professionalism, and compassion to her new position; and I’m excited to welcome her to the leadership team.
Speed Trailer
The department has a speed trailer available for placement on our roads. If you are interested in the speed trailer for your road or neighborhood, it can be requested on-line at www.truropolice.org/speed_trailer_request.htm
Fill out the information and we will put the request on our list.
Ride-Along Program
As always, our ride-along program is still available. It’s a great way to gain some insight into the police profession and, specifically, policing here in Truro. If you're interested in riding with a Police Officer, please stop by or give us a call at 508-487-8730. Also, please check our website, which is updated frequently at www.truropolice.org.
My information is below, and I’m always interested in hearing your thoughts.
I wish you all a healthy, safe and fun summer.
