Beach Program
We got off to a bit of a bumpy start at the Beach Office when we tried to implement the new sticker tracking software. Turns out the glitch wasn't with the software, but with the Town's data and the way it is stored. We are continuing to work on the data, and we will have the system running shortly.
The Beach Office is open 7 days a week, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for regular business, with issuance of fire permits, only, during 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Finally, please keep in mind that all animals are prohibited on the beach from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from June 16th thru Labor Day.

Recreation Program
The Recreation Department is also up and running with a full schedule of events and programs for the summer. Director Kelly Sullivan Clark and Assistant Director Damion Clemens oversee full-day programs for children and teens.
Summer Program 2012 - ROCKIN' REC SUMMER
Welcome to the Truro Recreation Summer Program!
Our program offers games, activities, challenges, theme days, field trips, and beach days. Our goal at Truro Recreation is to provide quality programming that benefits the Truro community. At the Summer Program, we strive to provide a safe and supervised environment that encourages friendships, physical activity, learning, and fun. Our different activities aim to nourish interactions between old faces and new faces, younger children and older children, and all kids and staff members. These interactions promote friendships and discourage all forms of bullying — something that we take very seriously at Truro Rec.
We operate two programs — the Children’s Program (ages 5-11) and a Teen Program. To be in the Teen Program, participants must be between 12 and 14 years old. Eleven-year olds may be eligible for the Teen Program if permission is granted by the staff. The Teen Program has separate trips and activities from the Children’s Program; however, some activities include both the Teen and Children’s Programs.
Truro Recreation tries to incorporate challenging and stimulating activities into our daily events where we can learn and work together while still having fun as usual.
At “Rec,” we love to try new things, whether outside on the field or inside in the art room; and we encourage kids to do the same. While we don’t usually require kids to participate in all activities, we do encourage that they come prepared to participate or at least give them a try. Certain activities (including activities on field trips) may be required, however, to ensure safety and supervision of all kids.
Some of our favorite parts of the program are theme days. Theme days include Carnival Day, Luau Day, Crazy Clothes Day, and more. Also, each summer we have a summer-long theme. This summer our theme is … “ROCKIN' REC SUMMER.”
There will be challenges and activities relating to this theme throughout the course of the summer!

Old North Cemetery Improvements
All work at the Old North Cemetery has been completed. The new granite and rod fence and the cobblestone driveways are a great improvement. Bob Masson, chair of the Cemetery Commission, and Paul Morris, DPW Director, did a fantastic job of overseeing the work. Thanks also to Trudi Brazil and the Accounting Office for processing the invoices and keeping us on budget.
We hope to add fencing to the two sides of the Cemetery in the fall. The cost of that phase will be approximately $15,000. Donations are appreciated greatly and gladly accepted.
Changes in the Administration Office
Julie Dupree has announced her retirement, with her last day at Town Hall on July 27th. With Julie's departure, we are undertaking a major reorganization of that department. We plan to promote Nicole Tudor to the position of Executive Assistant, and will hire another Executive Assistant by the time Julie leaves. The two EA'a will be equal in terms of responsibility and compensation. We hope this reorganization will allow us to take on more projects and to work on streamlining and automating many Town functions. We will be looking for someone in the second EA position with the same excellent skills that Nicole has with technology and customer service.
Applications for the Executive Assistant will be accepted until July 9th. The job description and instructions for applying are on the website at:

Non-Resident Taxpayers Annual Meeting
Breon Dunigan, Chair on the Board of Selectmen; Kyle Takakjian, Police Chief; and I will be speaking at the Non-Resident Taxpayers Annual Meeting on July 7, 2012, 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Library. We all will be providing updates, and I have been given the topic of the “State of the Town.” I shall be happy to report that the Town is in a good state financially and operationally. Hope to see a number of you there.
Temporary Fence at Snow's Park
Probably, many of you have noticed the temporary fencing that went up recently at Snow's Park across from Jam's. The fence was requested by the Truro Concert Committee and approved by the Conservation Commission. Its purpose is to provide safety and protection, and it will be removed once the concert season is over.
I hope you all have a happy and safe 4th of July.
Sincerely,
Rex Peterson
