August 7th is National Lighthouse Day

It was on this day in 1789 when Congress approved an Act for the establishment and support of lighthouses, beacons, buoys and public piers.  In celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the signing of the Act and the commissioning of the first Federal lighthouse, Congress passed a resolution which designated August 7th, 1989 as National Lighthouse Day.  In honor of National Lighthouse Day, we will offer a discounted admission rate on August 7th.

August 18th & 19th: International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend

Once again the Cape Cod Highland Light will host the Nashoba Valley Amateur Radio Club.

The basic objectives of this event is to promote public awareness of lighthouses and lightships and their need for preservation and restoration, to promote amateur radio, and to foster international good will.

The club will be set up behind Highland Lighthouse, and club members will contact lighthouses and lightships all over the world.  The radio operators will be happy to answer any question you may have.

Last year communication was made with lighthouses as far away as Europe, South America, and Japan.
