October on the Cape gives us some of the best fall golfing weather in New England. Cool, crisp mornings with warm, dry days make a round of golf at Highland Links a real treat. Again, the deep blue ocean views are spectacular and the emerald green fairways make you feel like you have been transported to Scotland. Call the Links today to make a reservation at 508-487-9201.
There were three tournaments in September at the Links. The Annual Lions Club Scramble on September 17th had fourteen five-somes participate. The team of David Silva, Rich Dumas, Mike Meads, Scott Fishman and Ken Martin claimed 1st place with a 14-under-par 56. It was a picture-perfect golf da,y and the low scores proved it.
The Annual Truro Treasures Scramble on September 18th had a record turnout of fourteen foursomes. First place went to the team of Bob Hassett, Carl Brotman, Rachael Cronin, and Dan Cronin. They fired an 11 under 59 to take home the bacon. There was a tie for second with a pair of 64's. They were the teams of Fran Johnson, Kevin O'Flarety, Mark Mezzano and Ron Mezzano and also Curtis Hartman, Darrell Shedd, Art Hultin and Dan Okrent. The low "all Ladies" team winner was Vicky Keith, Laurie Ferrari, Julie Nave and Deb Graeber with a 2 under 68. In second place was the team of Janet St. Onge, Nina Harrison, Jane Roderick, and Nancy Macht with a one-under 69. The players all enjoyed the prizes, food, drink, and fun.
The 27-hole "Grassey Cup" with nine holes of Best Ball, 9 holes of alternate shot Scotch and a 9 hole scramble saw Brian Plummer and Eric Thomis take the Cup with a total score of 87½ for the three-round total. The most spectacular shot of the day was a closest-to-the hole win by Carl Brotman, who hit a crisp 8-iron to a tucked pin to within 7 feet on his last shot of the day. This is one of the best formatted tournaments of the year, as all participants are challenged by the three different types of play.
Columbus Day weekend is fast approaching, and it is always packed with golfers at Highland Links! Make sure you call seven days in advance to reserve your tee time.
