Change is still in the air at the Truro Police Department and things are getting busy for us. First, Officer Valli and Roach did the Pamet Puma Ride with students from the Truro Central School. They rode the entire bike trail and I am told it was a great event. We look forward to another ride soon.
Kevin LaRocco - student officer
In the past month, we hired Kevin LaRocco as a student officer. He will start training in June and attend the police academy in July for 22 weeks. Kevin seems like the perfect match with the department and the community.
Energy Conservation and Fuel Costs
We are all concerned about energy conservation and fuel use costs. The Truro Police Department continues to be very conservative in this area. We work closely with the Energy Committee in pursuing new technologies that will mitigate our energy use long term. Currently, we are researching the feasibility of purchasing more IDLERIGHT© technology for the remainder of the police fleet. IDLERIGHT allows the police cruisers to run its emergency equipment and radios without the engine on for long periods and without draining the battery. We have this system in two vehicles and we think they will pay off.
School Zone Caution
You may have noticed more traffic on Rte 6 as spring has sprung upon us. As a reminder, please use caution near the school as the school zone is now in effect. In the warmer months kids and parents regularly cross Rte 6 to and from school. Let’s make it safe for them.
Firearms Safety Class
The department is sponsoring our very popular and heavily attended firearms safety class June 18, 2011 from 8:30AM to 4PM at the police station. This course is taught by Truro Police Officers who are state certified instructors in the field. The class is required for those looking to obtain their license to carry or possess firearms or weapons. To sign up, call the police station at 508-487-8730 as registration is limited to about 25.
Thanks from the Chief
On a final note, before this time next month, I will have been sworn in as Truro’s Permanent Chief of Police. For the past 15 months as Acting Chief, the department experienced increased activity and the highest morale in many years. For the everyday good works of the dedicated members of the Truro Police Department, I salute you and thank you – you are all indeed the best in the business. And to the Community that supported me in my goal of becoming your police chief, thank you. Expect great things as we continue our journey.
