The 50th Anniversary Challenge:
Discover the Treasures in Your Seashore

As part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of the National Seashore, the FRIENDS OF THE CAPE COD NATIONAL SEASHORE has organized a Treasure Hunt. There are no hidden “pieces of eight,” but we want you to discover some of the lesser-known places that are gems within the Seashore. Here is your opportunity to expand your knowledge and broaden your horizons – all the while having fun and exploring the wonders of the park.

To join the Treasure Hunt, ask for the Treasure Hunt Booklet at either the Salt Pond or Province Lands Visitor Centers. You may also download the booklet at the Friends’ website at www.fccns.org.

There are 80 one-sentence questions in all to answer by going to specific Seashore sites in Truro, Provincetown, Wellfleet, and Eastham.  Some of the questions are easy, others more difficult. For example, on Bearberry Hill in Pamet, one question is “What was the name of the cranberry company?” All questions require that you go to the site to discover the answer, so it is a great way to get to know more about the Seashore and its cultural and natural history.

There is no need to cover all the sites in one day, or even one week.  This is the perfect foggy/ grey day occupation for restless kids! Just mail your complete answer sheet, in the envelope provided, by September 30th to: Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore, P.O. Box 550, Wellfleet, MA 02667. Those entries with the most points (you don’t have to answer all the questions to enter) will be entered into a drawing. Prizes will be gift certificates to local stores and restaurants.
