Our thanks to Mike Trovato and Joe & Son Appliance Center of Provincetown for donating a fine washer/dryer for the Horton Drive house, now renovated and ready for an income-eligible family to buy with a perpetual affordable deed restriction. The house had the hook-ups but our budget didn’t have the money for the machines. We are very grateful. |

Our thanks to Lauren Mazzella and her husband, Joseph, who are tearing down their Truro summer house to build a larger, year-round home for their future retirement. The Mazellas are working with Woodmeister Master Builders of Holden. Their Master Builder Advisor tells the story: “The thought of ‘throwing perfectly fine appliances and building materials into the dumpster made me crazy,’ Mrs. Mazzella said. ‘There were a lot of things in the house that could be reused, and I knew that there are people who could use them.' ...Acting on a suggestion by Peter Hunt, project manager at Woodmeister, they made an arrangement with green-Goat, a non-profit organization [in Somerville] that salvages building materials and puts them to reuse. ...According to Philip Smith, treasurer and board member of Highland Affordable Housing, [t]he remodeled house [on Horton Drive] will feature three sliding-glass door units, three low-flow toilets, and a dishwasher from the Mazzella’s home. ‘This donation saves us from having to buy all of these items new,’ said Smith. ‘Since we are an all-volunteer organization, saving several thousands of dollars on the renovation is very important to us.' Speaking of energy efficiency, our thanks again to the US Green Building Council for recognizing our work at our 53 Shore Road rental duplex with a LEED Platinum designation and a cash award to go with it. And speaking of Shore Road, we want to recognize again Chris Enos and F. A. Days & Sons Heating gas service of Provincetown for welcoming not only the tenants there when the building opened last year, but also the tenants at our new 6 Helen’s Way rental duplex with full tanks of propane at no charge. |

As for Helen’s Way, we are grateful to Doug Bohannon, president of Mid-Cape Home Centers, and vice-president David “Skip” Carleton. Mid-Cape reimbursed to us 5 percent of the amount spent on materials by our general contractor Cape Associates. That was notable help. |

And finally, salutes as always to those it’s hard to thank enough – the longtime Truro couple who gave us a house on Corn Hill and a substantial donation so we could move it, and the Community Preservation Committee and the citizens of Truro who voted the money to buy the Horton Drive lot on which it now rests.
