Ryan F. Peters - Truro’s newest police officer

The Truro Police will have a new addition to their staff. Recently, the Board of Selectmen made the motion on Chief John Lundborn’s request that they appoint Ryan F. Peters as Truro’s newest police officer. Ryan grew up in Provincetown and was educated there. He received a bachelor’s degree from Suffolk University in Boston. He spent 3 years as a police officer in Provincetown. He lives in Truro with his wife and daughter. Much of Ryan’s family is still in the area.

Ryan is a graduate of Massachusetts Police Training Committee’s Recruit Class in Plymouth MA (Police Academy) and is trained as a drug recognition expert. He ranked highest in our interview scoring matrix, passed our comprehensive background, and definitely will fit into the positive synergies that exists in the Truro Police Department.

The hiring process is extensive due to the nature and responsibilities of the position. Candidates are required to fill out a lengthy questionnaire, undergo a comprehensive background check and participate in several interviews. In some cases, a physical agility test, psychological and medical tests are administered. This hiring process we invited a member of the Board of Selectmen, Bill Golden to participate in our interview panel. I believe Bill and the staff assigned to this task really worked well together. “I look forward to opening this process up even more in the future. It really works and more importantly, lends to my goal of increasing transparency of the department,” Chief Lundborn said.

The department has been short staffed since Chief Thomas retired last March. Since then, Lieutenant Lundborn was promoted to Acting Chief. Also, Officer Nick Ambrosini left us to work in Yarmouth this past year leaving a second vacancy. A third vacancy was created this past year through attrition. For the past year, all shifts have been running light, many times with just one officer working.

Officer Peters will bring his experience to Truro in March, 2011.
