HAH elected three new Board members at its Annual Meeting:
Mary Abt, who teaches music at the Truro Central School, came to our town in 1996 from Philadelphia. “ ‘Life changes’ ’’ brought me here,” she says. “I was dropped onto a bit of Heaven when I landed in Truro. I found my home!”
Claire Goyer, who recently retired as executive director of the Duffy Health Center, came to Truro in 1994 from Southern New Hampshire. She and her husband Andy “had long wanted to resettle to our beloved Cape Cod,” she says. “Although we settled in Truro on a temporary basis, we quickly knew that this ‘was the place for us.’ We love it all – the summer bustle and beaches, the winter peace and especially the interesting and multi-faceted nature of the community.”
Michael Meads, a lead foreman for Cape Associates, grew up in Provincetown. He moved to Truro in the late 80’s and, he notes, “rented for a few years.” “I got married to a Truro resident in 1992 and built my house in Truro in 1994. I loved the quietness and the neighborhoods of Truro. Also, the woods were a great change from the hustle of Provincetown.”
HAH also has a new president.
Kyle Takakjian, a sergeant with the Truro Police, came to Truro in July 1984 after completing active duty in the Coast Guard. He stayed, he says, “built a home, raising a family (two boys") and working in two businesses, welding and aviation, before joining the Truro Police in 1988. He stayed in the Coast Guard Reserve and has served over 27 years all told. “I love the town and its people.”
Other current board members include Marian Averback, Maureen Cronin, Phil Smith and John Van Kirk. Betsey Brown, Caroline Herron and Joel Searcy had terms that expired Jan. 31 of this year.
It’s a good group. And we do good work! Think about signing on. Mail us at truroaffordable@peoplepc.com, and let’s talk about it.
