Success!
The dedication of all you wonderful individuals since then was heart warming and greatly appreciated. Words CANNOT express how thankful I am for all who participated in the search for Claude. Everyone did an amazing job and all our efforts paid off in the end. Claude was found safe and in pretty good shape for a domesticated dog living in the wild for such a long period of time on his own. On November 5, 2010 I was on the phone discussing Claude with Sharon & Garry Ormsby (who had assisted on a daily basis from the time Claude went missing) and we were discussing the video I got off the trail camera that Doug Cox had lent to me and helped set up in the woods when Ellen Anthony came running to their house saying Claude was in her back yard. I stated I was on my way. When I arrived at the Anthony property on South Pamet Rd., Garry was sitting half way down the back hill talking with Claude keeping him calm until I could get there. I left the leash with Garry, got on my knees, shuffled down the hill with a bag of food and treats to the edge of the brush and bushes, lay on my stomach and crawled on my hands and knees the rest of the way to Claude, talking to him the whole time. He was wet, cold, shivering and very weak. He had lost weight and his collar was loose so I tightened that up before getting the leash from Garry. Once I had the collar tightened and had given him a couple small handfuls of food and a couple of treats I asked Garry for the leash. Garry slowly walked the leash down to me talking to Claude the whole way as to not scare him as well. I attached the leash and realized that he was so cold and exhausted that I picked him up and carried him to the truck where I placed him in the front seat with me on a nice warm blanket, placed another blanket over him and turned the heat on. He immediately perked up as if he was relieved to be safe and on his way to being warm. I transported him to Eastham Vet. Hospital to be checked out. The owner met me there and was happily reunited with Claude. His owner took him to have a complete wellbeing check with his regular vet the following morning which included blood work and x-rays. Overall he is in pretty good health, lost approximately 15 pounds, was given some medication and is expected to recover well. He will be going back for more blood work and tests to make sure test levels are back to normal now that he is home and eating a regular diet. Claude has made an amazingly fast recovery back into his normal routine and is getting lots of rest. With a little help from Claude - WE DID IT!!!! |
