Goals and Objectives

Our Town Charter calls for the Board of Selectmen to “annually, during the month of June, hold a meeting for the purpose of stating the Board's goals for the coming fiscal year.” Over the past month, your Board of Selectmen has been working on an ambitious set of Goals and Objectives for Fiscal Year 2015. A copy of our goals and objectives are available by clicking here or visiting the Town’s new website.

We began the annual process of developing our goals and objectives in late May by reviewing progress on our FY-14 objectives and by identifying other priorities that need to be addressed. On June 10th, we invited our Co-Acting Town Administrators, the Police Chief, Fire Chief, and all Town Department Heads to participate in a two-hour workshop.

Members of the Board of Selectmen felt that it would be useful to engage our professional staff in the development of objectives in a more meaningful way. I think that all who attended the workshop felt it was an incredibly useful exercise and has better informed us of our priorities for the coming year. I am particularly grateful for the professionalism and thoughtfulness the staff brought to the workshop, and it is my hope that we will hold a mid-year check-in with the staff to discuss progress and challenges in meeting our goals.

This year’s goals and objectives are again ambitious, yet I believe necessary to confront a number of short-term and long-range challenges that lie before us. We will continue to look at long-term policy issues that address the sustainability of our Town government and what we must do to ensure preservation of the unique character of the Town and its citizens.

I invite you to review and comment on our Goals and Objectives. And you are welcome to meet with me or any member of the Board of Selectmen. We hold office hours on a regular basis – consult the Town’s website for dates, times, and locations – and we are available by email.
